Epicenters: A Circle of Memory
By Carola Bravo

Epicenters:

A Circle of Memory is an installation that commemorates those who lost their lives in some of the world’s most devastating earthquakes while honoring the survivors, rescuers, and communities whose acts of courage, compassion, and solidarity emerge in the aftermath of catastrophe.

The work takes the form of a circle composed of fractured stone fragments. Each fragment carries the location, date, magnitude, and number of casualties of a major earthquake of magnitude 7.5 or greater since 1900. Together, these fragments form a collective archive—a constellation of human experiences marked by moments when the earth shifted and lives were irrevocably changed.
