Hugo Diaz, born in Venezuela in 1965 and based in the United States, is a kinetic artist. He holds a degree in Engineering of Computer Systems from the Metropolitan University in Caracas, Venezuela, and that technical training underlies the precision of his compositions. His work brings together geometric abstraction, color, lines, light and other elements to create virtual movement: motion that is perceived only from certain angles or sections of a piece. He works in the tradition of the Kinetic Art Movement. Diaz works in mixed media on plexiglass, in aluminum with acrylic and enamel paint, and in multi-panel acrylic kinetic pieces, and issues some of his plexiglass
towers in small editions.
